“It’s Better To Be DIFFERENT Than To Be Better…”

Rich Schefren, they call him guru of gurus’, the guy who made more millionaires than anyone else, super successful guy, extremely smart, had a chance to meet him and listen to his special presentation just for attendees of Big Idea BootCamp with Todd Brown…and this is what he said:

“It’s better to be DIFFERENT than than to be better…”

What? Well it’s true..lets dive into it…

Here is how we humans think: we look for commonalities, and the soonest we find them, we will categorize them and store them in our mid as yet another “sales person, weight loss program, dentist, etc…”

For example, if you are selling sun tanning, in the customer’s mind they will store sun tanning under “sun tanning” (obviously) and the problem there is they will look sun tanning studio that’s close to them and they will want a bargain…

Why?

Because in their mind, it’s nothing else than sun tanning, they simply won’t see the difference and the reason why they should drive to your studio or pay you more money…

You see, when things are different, they are ‘new’ in our mind, and we as humans are naturally curious so it will get our attention.

Not to mention when you do, or get, something different that makes you stand out, and when you do stand out, you get attention, and when you get attention, you get feelings of love, you get the status…

It’s like driving a Ferrari, not many people have it so it feels good when you have one…or maybe you can drive Tesla, world’s fastest electric car…anyway, you get the picture..something is different…

We are made to evolve, learn, and we simply love challenges, so when we solve a problem, or big problem, we feel awesome…and that ties into the ‘new’ or ‘different’..there is something interesting there and we got to have it..we got to feel special… in other words, we get bored quite easily and quickly…

So being different is one the best ways to snap your prospects out of their half sleeping hypnotic state (being stuck in daily routine and being bored)….

In fact, it’s much easier to be different than to prove to people that your product/service is better..and quite frankly, most of people don’t care…

You know this, people don’t care about your products, or mine, they care about themselves and what will that product do for them… they are buying a feeling form you, nothing else… and buying something that is different is buying feeling they don’t have…

Check this out: before I went to US I was looking for iPhone protection cover.. then I found many, but only one company had “army grade” protection…and guess what, no one else had “army grade” protection so in my mind I couldn’t categorize it, and store it, as other cover protections…

There simply were no “army grade” protections for the iPhone in my mind… so I bought it… juts to let you know, other covers are $40-$60 bucks..”Army grade” is $120…

Is it better?

Who knows…in my mind it is, simply by being different…oh, and one other thing…with other covers, I simply couldn’t figure out which one is better simply because there was almost no difference between them…

(By the way, they did use the advanced marketing technique…”army grade” is called ‘unique mechanism’ in marketing terms.. And because of it, it simply stands out…)

Few more examples to help you shed light on your business:

– If you are a chiropractor, you don’t market your services by saying the benefits of going to a chiropractor.. Why?

Because people will say “cool, this makes sense, there one behind the corner, I’ll go there”

You market the benefits of going to YOU as a chiropractor, your difference as a chiropractor, that special treatment that they can only get from you as a chiropractor

– If you are selling sun tanning, then don’t market sun tanning as it is and how it will make people look gorgeous…why? Because they can also say “cool, this makes sense, there one sun tanning studio behind the corner, I’ll go there”

You market sun tanning in your studio BECAUSE you use this super special method/machine/something than no other studio has so people will see that they can’t get it nowhere else but from you… and make them look even more gorgeous…

– If you are selling property then you don’t market your services as an agent…why?

Because there is a ton of them around the corner…

You do to market your special “listing technique” which allows a 93% house owner to sell their home in 28 days…

They can’t get that from a regular real estate agent so they will want to work with you…

– If you are selling any kind of training that then you don’t sell the training itself…why?

Because people will almost always find cheaper versions than yours…

What you do sell is training with you, or your company, BECAUSE you are an authority and have all this year of experience, rewards, accreditation, you do it the right way(explain what is the right way is) and you make a point of difference between being taught by an experienced person and someone who is not…

Nothing stops you to be better and different
